Just Cookies

3/5/2017

99.9% of my wife’s customers and the people she interacts with are a joy and easy to work with.  They appreciate what she offers and the craftsmanship (or womanship) with which she completes her sets.
One woman however balked at the price, and stated that they are “just cookies”.  Sigh, no my dear, they are way more than just cookies.
  • They are a mother allowing her 3 year old to celebrate his birthday with his favorite dinosaur.
  • They are an excited bride-to-be asking her best friends to be in her wedding party.
  • They are an excited couple announcing to their friends and families the gender of their unborn child.
  • They are a “Thank You’ gift to a group of medical staff from a woman who has just finished cancer treatment.
  • They are a reminder of friendship.
  • They are a personalized celebration.
  • They are a way for a daughter to provide her dying mother with a token of her love, one of the few things her mother actually still enjoys eating as the cancer continues to wreak havoc.
  • They are a way for a parent to thank a teacher, a patient to thank a nurse, a boss to thank an employee, and employee to thank a boss.
  • They are a way for one business to thank another.
  • They are a way for a wife to celebrate her husband’s 30th birthday, with cookies depicting his favorite things in life.
  • They are a way to honor a loved one who has recently passed away.
My wife has had the distinct pleasure to participate in the meaningful events of so many families throughout her cookie journey, including every.single.event that I described above.
No ma’am, these wonderful works of culinary divineness are many, many things.
But what they are not, is “Just Cookies".

Not only that.... but it pays for her local and government taxes, her self employment insurance, utility bills for creating such treasures, pays for her time away from family, and not to mention supplies to keep creating such art.

Thank you for relaying this to whomever this applies to! It is so wonderful to see your support for Amy and all cookiers everywhere! If those that knew the time and prep that goes into cookie making...from a clients wants and needs..,turning it into an idea...countless tries to perfect colors/shapes/tastes, etc...and learning, guiding and inspiring while figuring out how to please the unpleasantly...on a limited budget...if the stepped into her shoes...only then would they know the sacrifices made...deadlines to meet...sleepless, busy nights...all to make your event special...pictures are worth a thousand words...Amy is very talented. I appreciate her talent, help and inspiration. She is among many talented cookiers who help others without hesitation. She is special...thank you for reminding us all.

Cookies take a lot of work. From coming up with a design, to finding the perfect Cookie and royal icing recipe to mixing colors to come up with the perfect shade of Tiffany Blue to finding packaging that catches the eye, a lot of work is involved in creating beautiful, tasty cookies. So no they are not 'just cookies!'
