Forsythia Twig Wreath

I absolutely love early spring. The little glimpses of warmer weather in early spring beg me to open the windows for a bit, throw on my flip-flops, and leave the heavier coats on their hooks by the door.
My favorite, FAVORITE part of early spring?? THE FLOWERS! Especially daffodils and forsythia.  Maybe it's because they're my favorite color? Maybe it's because they are among the early spring bloomers? In any case, I love them. When I see their bright yellow buds, I know for sure that spring is coming.
This year, I've been so inspired by nature's beauty that I wanted to do some spring decorated cookies, like this pretty (and easy!) forsythia twig wreath!
What you'll need:
* your choice of cookie base. Base icing flood is optional!
* brown icing- thick!
* Decorator tips 1 or PME 1 or 1.5- depending on how thick you want the branches
* Scribe tool or some other tool to mark dried icing
Picture
1. Use a scribe tool to trace a coupler (or something else round). This circle will be marking the INNER part of your wreath.

3. Pipe another brown line, slightly overlapping the first one, and still following the edge of the traced circle.

2. Using brown icing, pipe a straight line along one edge of the traced circle and extend it out to as wide as you want your wreath to be.

4. Yup, pipe another brown line. See where I'm going with this?

Continue piping those twigs, following the traced circle as a guideline. Once you have added branches all the way around the circle, fill in any weird empty places with more branches. Remember that part of the charm of these wreaths are the randomness. They are not perfect!

* I forgot to take a picture of my completed wreath BEFORE adding the flowers.  Sorry :(

Although the twig wreaths are pretty au naturel, I wanted to add some blossoms to mine! I used thickish yellow icing with a tiny star tip to make blossoms closer to the center of the wreath. Then I switched to a small round tip to make the impression of smaller blossoms towards the twig ends. You could even add in tiny dots of green for leaves!

I think that forsythia wreaths placed on a door are the perfect way to Welcome Spring!

Oh how I love that door with the wreath Amy! I have to make one! We feel the same way about spring! It's Forsythia that warms my heart with the first sighting. :)

It is wonderful you were inspired by the nature beauty to make such a cake! To my mind, we should overcome the feeling of loneliness by interacting more with other people! It is awful to remain lonely at home without a family and friends! BTW, thanks for a new splurge of power I have received from you post! Keep it up!
